Weaver Street Market 25th Anniversary Event Preview
Three local breweries will be debuting special limited edition beers at Weaver Street Market’s 25th anniversary celebration in Carrboro.
Starpoint Brewing, Fullsteam Brewery and Mystrey Brewing have each concocted a special brew for Saturday’s occasion.
“We all just wanted to help out and recognize the Weaver Street contribution to our community,” said Tim Harper, owner and head brewer of Starpoint Brewing.
“I’ve lived here since 1979 and seen them grow, so it’s really nice that they asked.”
Harper said the beer Starpoint Brewing created — dubbed the Weaver Berry Patchwork Stout — is unusual in the beer industry.
“As far as I know, there’s only one other brewery in the United States making a blueberry stout,” he said.
“There’s lots of blueberry ales and blueberry lagers … but this is very unique.”
Harper said the brewery made 500 bottles and several kegs of the special edition brew, which will be available for purchase at the event. The beer can also be purchased at Weaver Street Market and Panzanella until the supply runs out.
Weaver Street Market has been selling Starpoint Brewing’s beer in its store since the brewery’s opening in 2012.
“Weaver Street was one of the first retailers to carry our beer,” Harper said.
“We’re a really small brewery down in the south of Carrboro, and they came out and checked us out and said, ‘We want to carry your beer’ … they’ve always been supportive.”
Fullsteam Brewery, located in Durham, created a Rye IPA for Saturday’s celebration entitled Hula Hoop Rye Ale. Mystery Brewing in Hillsborough prepared an amber lager called the Local Pride Amber Lager. Each brewery also created unique labels for the beverages’ bottles.
There will be opportunities to sample each brewery’s limited edition beer at the event. The celebration is free and will be held at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro on Saturday from 3pm to 6pm. The event will also feature live music by Mary Johnson Rockers. Food tickets can be purchased and the proceeds will go to the Cooperative Community Fund.
